Form

I'm still stuck on the form idea. I keep trying to connect a story between these songs, and I guesss there is something there, and then I wonder if the project wouldn't be better off with more short stories? Or, images without a through line?

okay, here are some random thoughts on a through line:

girl is dissatisfied with her daily life, plucks down some ideas online.

(side note: I don't think that having an online second life is bad. I think there are consequences to it as there are with never putting yourself online.) I see a girl on the side of the stage at a computer, and the avatar is created center stage. I see a boy on the opposite side of the stage creating his avatar as well -which appears center stage. I see a video of another girl who wants to have online fame- no matter what it takes. I see she and the boy are, I dunno- online dating? wooo- online married. their avatars are married.

first girl tries to create a "pumped up" online image in order to get boy's attention.

something goes horribly horribly wrong.

In the end the girl and boy meet in non-online life and we see the start of their story while the other video girl gains world-wide internet fame.

Well, it's a start.

wooo.. I can post my avatar here:

  1. Dana,

I'm struggling with form too, but then I realize, we don't have to make up our minds beforehand, and also, this piece will have its own form, you know?

However, as a general sense, I think "inter-related vignettes."

If you'd like to see a copy of our show, BILLY THE MOUNTAIN, it might help a little to know we've done a show before (to great success) that was less "play" more "pastiche."

To me, the point of this blog is to establish the main guiding ideas for the pastiche, or, inter-related vignettes. We'll then drape the material on the songs, the character ideas, and the main, driving action.

See my response to your comment on "This Issue of Watchability."

    But--I like your intial ideas.

  2. I think that this is a great place to wrestle with ideas and questions, but also to respond creatively. I am going to challenge myself to write something or choreograph something or draw something related to all these ideas. This could end up being a seed of a scene or a separate vignette entirely.

Also, I am going to think creatively about what our Gotham City/Wonderland/Oz is if our world is not overtly folks in America on their Macs/PCs.

You are all welcome to join me.
