Team Awesome,
GREAT work session today. Thank you for being such asskickers. Now—onwards and upwards.
Here is what you are to do over the next few weeks before our next writing sessions. Please post your lists/ideas/suggested additions to the scripts on the blog by Sunday February 22nd.
NOTE TO ALL: Please post all writing on the blog. If you are suggesting specific text/character appearances within the structure of the piece, please refer to page numbers in your first draft of the script. Will make it easier for me to assemble.
ALLIE
Flesh out the Virgil Sage character. Utilize the idea that he often speaks in chunks of poetry/found text/literature. An endless source of gatherable information. Use also the idea that the VS appears as multiple characters.
DANA, DANIELLE, AND RENEE
List and, where possible, generate text/movement ideas for, “cameo” characters—characters who essentially pass through but are still manifestations of different aspects of the internet/online culture. Some examples of these that we came up with in the work session today were: Pop-Ups, Hard Drive Scrubbers, Viruses, Porn Bombs, Match.com Matchmaker.
AMANDA, DANIELLE, AND RENEE
Work on the through-line and arc of the relationship between the Birdwatcher and the Girl. In general, we know that Birdwatcher sees/reads about the girl, finds her fascinating, follows her into the world, she catches him finding her fascinating and comes to enjoy this but never stays around long enough for him to get close; he consequently thinks he must become someone different/equally fascinating...and from here we need to get more specific. Also generate ideas about what is in the her text and what is in the text of the scene between the Girl and the Birdwatcher when they finally talk.
BEN
Take a look at the general structure of the show. Suggest and tightening up, clarifying, or places where transitions need to be negotiated more cleverly.
DANA AND CHRISTIAN
Push the weirdness of the Peddler/Red Light District scene. Find additional ways not only to make it weird, but also perhaps to incorporate some language from the “Casual Encounters/Missed Connections” language into the scene. Also: how can we make a more overt suggestion of the porn culture of the internet without having naked ladies?
AMANDA
Diversify the language of the Talkomatic scene. How to put in additional language from other places besides Facebook—IM, Myspace, Twitter, etc. Not only newsfeed stuff but all that so and so sent you a margarita bullshit.
I will send the blog posts assignments in a separate e-mail. I will also post all this to the blog so it is there for reference.
RE with questions,
AKBW
